The Osun State Government has announced a suspension of all further dealings with the state chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN.
The announcement follows a leadership crisis and ongoing controversy within the youth body.
The decision was made public on Sunday in Osogbo through a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi.
According to the statement, “The government expressed concern over what it described as deepening leadership feuds and controversies relating to the management of allocated resources within the state NYCN.
“As a result, the government has ordered a formal review of its previous engagements with the council and constituted a three-man investigative committee made up of unaffiliated nominees.
“The committee has been mandated to investigate the issues surrounding the leadership crisis and report its findings to the government.”
Pending the outcome of the investigation, the state government said it would suspend all official interactions with the NYCN at the state level.
The government also disclosed that it would implement a directive issued by the Federal Ministry of Youth Development to all ministries and stakeholders in the youth sector in late 2025.
The federal government directive, according to the statement, followed the withdrawal of the NYCN’s certificate of registration by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), leading to the suspension of dealings with the national leadership.
“The Ministry cited persistent infighting, factionalisation, and confrontations as reasons for the decision,” the statement added.
Alimi said the Osun State Government’s action was in line with the federal position, given that the state chapter is now facing similar internal challenges.
He assured residents that “the government remains committed to restoring normalcy, transparency, and accountability within the youth sector through the processes already put in place.”
