Shooting Stars Sports Club have completed the signing of midfielder Olakunle Akala from Kano Pillars ahead of the new Nigeria Premier Football League season.
Akala joined the Ibadan-based club on a one-year contract after ending his spell with Kano Pillars, where he featured prominently during the previous campaign.
The midfielder confirmed his departure from the four-time NPFL champions in a farewell message shared on social media.
He expressed appreciation to the club’s management, coaching staff, teammates and supporters for their backing throughout his time in Kano.
“It was a privilege to wear the Kano Pillars shirt,” Akala said.
He added that he was grateful for the reception he received from the club and would continue to value the memories created during his stay.
Akala said he was leaving with respect for everyone connected to Kano Pillars as he prepared to begin a new chapter in his football career.
Background
Shooting Stars are strengthening their squad as they prepare for the upcoming NPFL campaign.
The Oluyole Warriors have continued to reinforce key areas of the team, with Akala’s arrival expected to add depth and experience to the midfield.
Kano Pillars, one of Nigeria’s most successful league clubs, will now look to reorganise their squad following the midfielder’s departure.
Why This Matters
Akala’s move gives Shooting Stars another experienced option in midfield as the club seeks to improve its competitiveness in the domestic league.
For Kano Pillars, the transfer represents the loss of a player who played an important role in the squad last season.
