The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Taraba State University (TSU) branch, has reaffirmed its total and indefinite strike, directing members to suspend all teaching activities, including online lectures, project supervision and teaching practice supervision.

In a statement issued on Monday, the branch chairperson, Dr. Garba Mbave Joshua, urged members to remain united, disciplined and committed to the strike directive.

The union said the strike would remain comprehensive until meaningful engagement with the government produced concrete progress towards resolving the issues behind the industrial action.

It clarified that no teaching, supervision or lectures, whether conducted online or physically, should take place throughout the strike.

ASUU-TSU directed members to suspend all academic activities across university programmes, including those conducted outside the university premises. It also warned against using alternative platforms or arrangements to circumvent the union’s collective decision.

“Compliance with the directive is essential to sustaining the union’s bargaining position. Selective participation in academic activities could weaken its collective action,” the union said.

The branch leadership maintained that the success of the strike depended on the solidarity of its members, urging them to comply with the directive without exception.

ASUU-TSU also cautioned members against what it described as media propaganda, misleading reports and provocative statements allegedly intended to undermine the strike.

It advised members not to allow rumours, speculation or unverified information to influence their decisions or create divisions within the union.

The statement said there had been no meaningful engagement with the government capable of addressing the issues at the centre of the dispute.

The union consequently urged members to disregard any impression that the disagreement had been resolved, insisting that its position would remain unchanged until concrete progress was achieved through negotiations.

It also advised members to rely on official communications from the branch leadership for clarification rather than information circulating through unofficial channels.

While appreciating members for their sacrifices, discipline and commitment to the struggle, the leadership said the union remained determined to defend their legitimate interests.

The statement further urged members to remain vigilant and resist intimidation, stressing that unity and collective determination were essential to achieving the union’s demands.

ASUU-TSU has been on an indefinite strike since October 12, 2026, over unresolved demands, including the implementation of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement and outstanding salary arrears dating back to January 2026.

The industrial action has disrupted academic activities at the university, including examinations, raising concerns among students, parents and other stakeholders over the institution’s academic calendar.
