No fewer than 70 vehicles with various traffic offences have on Monday been impounded by police in Yobe State in line with the Motor Traffic Regulations Act.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed this in a statement, noting that the decisive action follows a noticeable increase in criminal activities involving vehicles with covered or tinted glasses, which are often used to conceal the identities of suspects.
“As enforcement commenced, several categories of traffic violations were detected. Vehicles without number plates, those with incomplete or invalid documentation, and vehicles with covered number plates without valid justification were impounded.
“So far, a total of 70 vehicles have been impounded for various traffic offences.
“This operation aims to sustain law enforcement efforts and curb the activities of miscreants who use vehicles to commit crimes within communities”, the PPRO said.
According to the Police Spokesperson the Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, inspected the ongoing enforcement exercise to ensure full compliance with traffic regulations, where he urged motorists to regularize their vehicle documents and obtain valid tinted glass permits through the appropriate channels.
This, he noted, will enable the command to maintain proper records of users, which is crucial during criminal investigations, accidents, or matters relating to public safety.
The CP reiterate the Command’s commitment to ensuring public safety and security.
This is coming despite a court order urging the police not to enforce the policy.
