A tragic accident occurred in Jos, Plateau State, on Wednesday when a moving train crushed a tricycle, killing the rider and one passenger on the spot.

The incident happened around the Phototech area of Abattoir Junction in Jos South Local Government Area at about 11 a.m. The train was said to be travelling from Bukuru to Jos city centre when it rammed into the tricycle.

Two other passengers sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Jos Railway Station, Adam Abdullahi, blamed the crash on the tricycle rider’s refusal to obey traffic instructions.

He said, “What happened was that at the level crossing, our official stopped him but he refused to stop. The train’s speed eventually caught the tricycle, causing the accident.”

Abdullahi added that the crossing guard at the scene had signalled the tricyclist to wait, but he allegedly insisted on crossing the tracks despite the oncoming train.
