A group, PDP Advocates for Peace and Justice, PAPaJ, has expressed optimism that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, would return to power with the emergence of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, as the party’s National Chairman.

Turaki, a former Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, was nominated as the consensus candidate for the national chairmanship of the PDP by the Northern Elders and stakeholders of the party.

The Chairman of PAPaJ, Dr. Tom FredFish while commending the northern elders in a statement on Friday, said the gesture signifies a rebirth of hope and a strategic repositioning of PDP ahead of the 2025 National Elective Convention in Ibadan as well as the 2027 general elections.

He said, “With Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, the PDP is on course for revival, rebranding, and a triumphant return to power. The journey to reclaiming Aso Rock in 2027 begins now, with unity, vision, and purposeful leadership.

“At a time when Nigeria is saddled with the burden of hardship, insecurity, and poor governance arising from the impunity-driven APC administration, this consensus move could not have come at a better time.

“It signifies a rebirth of hope and a strategic repositioning of the PDP ahead of the 2025 National Elective Convention in Ibadan on November 15 – 16, and more importantly, for the 2027 general elections.

“This is more than an endorsement, it is a rescue mission. It is a deliberate step towards rebuilding the party into a cohesive force capable of reclaiming power and rescuing Nigeria from economic decay, political intolerance, and leadership bankruptcy.

*We salute the Northern PDP leaders for placing patriotism above personal interests and demonstrating uncommon statesmanship. Their decision has set the tone for reconciliation, discipline, and proactive leadership that will drive the party towards victory.”

He expressed confidence that with the new leadership, PDP will experience “renewed stability, strengthened internal democracy, reactivated grassroots structures, and a rekindling of public confidence across Nigeria”.

He, therefore called on stakeholders from other regions to follow the example of the Northern elders by embracing peace, unity and consensus-building in the interest of the party and the nation.
