An Ibadan-based Islamic scholar, Mallam Ali Temitope Abdulssalam, has advised the federal government led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to unravel the mystery behind insurgency, banditry, kidnappings, ritual killings, and other criminal activities across the country.
Abdulssalam enjoined Tinubu to tackle the problems headlong without wasting more time.
He noted that this is necessary in order to restore confidence in his government.
Abdulssalam made these assertions while speaking at the fifth graduation ceremony of Ali Institute for Qur’an Memorisation, Ibadan, on Sunday.
The event was attended by the wife of a former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Professor Hamdalat Olaniyan; Agbaoye of Ibadanland, Alhaji Kola Karim, who was represented by Alhaji Yinka Karim; Architect Hassan Giwa; Alhaji Mutiu Oladejo; and a former gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party in Oyo State, Mr Taofeek Akinwale, among others.
Abdulssalam, who also serves as the director of the institute, said that any effort made to tackle the menace will help restore confidence in the government and make Nigeria great again.
While speaking further, Abdulssalam called on all levels of government to support various Qur’an and Islamic knowledge centres in the country.
He said that these centres are capable of raising future leaders who are God-fearing, pious, patriotic, and free of the spirit of tribalism, terrorism, and other vices.
Abdulssalam also said that any individual with a balanced knowledge of the Qur’an and Islamic morals and values will not engage in social vices.
He said, “On security, I equally call on the government to unravel what seems to have become a mystery in the fight against insurgency, banditry, and similar tendencies, such as kidnappings and killings for rituals, and to tackle the problems headlong.
“We believe this will restore confidence in the government and make Nigeria great again.
“We call on the government at all levels to fund and support various Qur’an and Islamic knowledge centres like ours across the country as we strive to raise future leaders who are God-fearing, pious, patriotic, and free of the spirit of tribalism, terrorism, and other vices due to their balanced knowledge of the Qur’an and Islamic morals, values, and etiquette.
“Governments at all levels should provide an enabling environment for the teaching of virtues and morals alongside education, as we do at Ali Institute for Qur’an Memorisation, and give incentives to those who do the right thing to encourage others to do the same.”
Karim, in his remarks, urged the graduands to continue to be good ambassadors, and said this must reflect in their character at all times.
