The Vice-Chancellor of Osun State University, UNIOSUN, Prof. Odunayo Clement Adebooye, has said the institution is committed to the provision of quality education and producing graduates who are fully equipped with the knowledge, skills and character required to contribute meaningfully to national and global development.
This is as he also disclosed that the 16th Convocation of the institution will focus on academic excellence, research, innovation, character and the contribution of education to societal development.
The Vice Chancellor disclosed this on Saturday at a press conference held to herald the university’s week-long convocation ceremonies in Osogbo.
Prof Adebooye said the university had continued to expand its commitment to academic excellence, research, innovation, entrepreneurship, community development and responsible research.
He said the 16th convocation will see 4,357 students receive first degrees, postgraduate diplomas, master’s and doctoral degrees.
“4,357 students would receive first degrees, postgraduate diplomas, master’s and doctoral degrees during the convocation. The figure comprised 3,845 first-degree graduates, nine postgraduate diploma recipients, 400 master’s degree graduates and 103 doctoral degree recipients, according to the Vice-Chancellor.”
He disclosed that 88 first-degree graduates obtained First-Class Honours, while 1,509 recorded Second-Class Upper Division and 1,946 obtained Second-Class Lower Division.
Adebooye said 220 graduates obtained Third-Class Honours, while three students graduated with Pass degrees, bringing the total number of first-degree graduates to 3,845.
The Vice-Chancellor also announced that the university would graduate its first set of medical doctors, with 90 students from its Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery programme completing their studies.
“We produced our first set of medical doctors. The pioneer MBBS students had completed their course after meeting the required statutory and professional accreditation requirements.
“The 90 medical graduates were inducted by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria on August 12, 2026, and would be presented with their degrees on Wednesday, September 23,” he added.
Adebooye disclosed that pioneer students from several programmes would graduate at the convocation, including Cyber Security, Information Systems, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Criminology and Security Studies, Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution, and International Relations and Diplomacy.
“Other programmes with pioneer graduating students, include Psychology, Demography and Social Statistics, Cooperative and Rural Development, Public Administration, Library and Information Science, Biotechnology, Business Education, Environmental Education, Adult Education and Social Work,” he said.
He said the university’s governing structure had also changed, with the appointment of Victoria Adunola Samson as Chancellor following the expiration of Apostle Folorunso Alakija’s two-term tenure, while the Governing Council was reconstituted on August 31, 2026.
