The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, in Zamfara State says it recorded a six per cent decline in road crashes compared to the same period last year.
The Sector Commander, Aliyu Ma’aji, disclosed this on Monday during the flag-off of the 2025 Ember Months Campaign in Gusau.
According to him, the command recorded 46 road crashes in 2025, down from 56 incidents in 2024, representing a 6.27 per cent reduction.
He said 51 people were killed and 259 injured in the 2024 crashes, attributing most casualties to mixed loading among truck drivers who transport goods, animals, and passengers together.
Delivering the message of Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed, Ma’aji said the 2025 campaign theme, “Take Responsibility for Your Safety: Stop Distracted Driving”, highlights the need for drivers to avoid risky behaviour behind the wheel.
He noted that human factors such as driver fatigue, overloading, and unsafe transportation practices remained major causes of crashes across the state.
“The campaign aims to address traffic violations and improve road discipline among motorists as we approach the end of the year,” Ma’aji said.
He added that the command had introduced new enforcement strategies to ensure safer roads during the festive season.
