Alphonsus Ogar Eba, the embattled chairman of the ruling party, All Progressives Congress, APC, has been expelled from the party.

The suspension of State Special Leader, Dr Juliet Ebuo Diwa, was also confirmed.

The decision was reached on Monday at a meeting of the APC State Caretaker Committee held at the party secretariat.

Eba was alleged to have breached the party’s constitution.

The Publicity Secretary of the APC State Caretaker Committee, Emmanuel Edem Inyang, explained that the expulsion followed the invocation of Article 21.5(v) of the APC Constitution, as amended on March 26, 2022.

According to the statement he issued on Monday, “the constitutional provision stipulates that any member who institutes legal action against the party or any of its officers on matters relating to party affairs, without first exhausting internal dispute resolution mechanisms, automatically stands expelled upon filing such action.”

The statement added that the motion invoking the provision was moved by the party’s Vice Chairman for the Central Senatorial District, Dr Abubakar Efoli, and seconded by the Youth Leader (North), Dr Joseph Idagu Ogar, before it was adopted.

“The committee therefore affirmed the expulsion of Mr Alphonsus Ogar Eba in line with the provisions of the APC constitution,” the statement said, noting that no appeal would be entertained unless the court action is withdrawn.

The committee also said it upheld the suspension of the party’s State Special Leader, Dr Juliet Diwa, over alleged misconduct at the ward level.

It stated that the suspension followed a petition by the APC chairman in Boki LGA, Kelvin Njong, alleging that Diwa assaulted the ward chairman, James Abang.

The statement noted that Diwa’s suspension would remain in force pending the outcome of the party’s disciplinary committee investigation.
