Palpable tension enveloped the Oganenigu Community Dekina local Government of Kogi State on Wednesday following rumors of planned attacks on the Community by Fulani herdsmen.
According to the information that went around on Wednesday, some Fulani herdsmen were planning to attack the community Wednesday night.
As a result of this, students of the community who resumed school were asked to return home, while the private school that opened earlier in the day hurriedly closed and sent messages to parents to come for their children.
Sources from Ojiapata Oganenigu said. The planned attack was a result of trespasses and willful destruction of farm products by the herders; on subtle complaining, the herders chased him and burnt a packed motorcycle and still threatened to burn down the community.
Multiple sources also disclosed that the herders plan to carry out the planned attack in the dead of the night.
As a result of this, the youth troop out in their numbers to keep vigil to avert the attack.
We call on Governor Usman Ododo, Senator Isa Jibrin, Hon Paul Gowon, and Hon Usman Ochidi to lend their voices to the planned attack to restore peace and others and to also proffer lasting solutions to herders and native conflict in the community.
We admonished the commissioner of police in Kogi State to visit the community to suppress the growing tension and incessant killings that may occur as a result of the planned attack.
