Former Sokoto State Governor and Senator representing Sokoto South, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has expressed grief over the recent bandit attacks on Dangulbi community in Tureta Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Tambuwal condemned the killings, destruction of property and displacement of residents caused by the attacks, describing the incidents as a tragic reminder of the security challenges confronting communities in Sokoto State.
He also called for enhanced security measures to protect vulnerable communities.
“I am deeply saddened and heartbroken by the unfortunate attacks on Dangulbi community. These repeated attacks on innocent citizens are painful, unacceptable and a direct assault on the peace and security of our communities,” he said.
The senator extended condolences to families of those who lost their lives and wished those injured a speedy recovery. He also sympathised with residents displaced by the violence.
Tambuwal prayed for the repose of the victims and called for the safe return of persons reportedly abducted during the attacks.
He urged security agencies to intensify efforts to restore peace and strengthen protection for communities across the Sokoto-Zamfara axis, noting that residents deserve to live and pursue their livelihoods without fear.
“Our people deserve to live in safety and pursue their livelihoods without fear,” he stated.
The former governor also appealed to residents to remain united and continue supporting lawful efforts aimed at tackling insecurity and restoring lasting peace in affected areas.
Tambuwal reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives designed to enhance security and safeguard lives and property across Sokoto State and the country.
The attacks occurred in Dangulbi community, Tureta Local Government Area, where armed bandits reportedly killed at least 17 people on Sunday, including visitors who had travelled to the area for Eid-el-Kabir celebrations. Several shops were looted, while residents fled to nearby forests for safety.
Reports also indicated that another attack occurred less than 48 hours later, resulting in additional casualties and renewed concerns over insecurity in the area.
