Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, has assured that the police have taken necessary actions to forestall the breakdown of law and order as a result of solidarity protests over the ongoing conflict
between the United States and Iran.
Disu gave this assurance on Wednesday shortly after he was sworn in as the substantive Inspector-General of Police at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Recall that the United States and its ally, Israel, on Saturday launched air strikes on Iran resulting in the killing of the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Since the killing of the Supreme Leader, solidarity protests have broken out in two different parts of Nigeria.
Reacting, the new IGP said, “We’re aware of possible repercussions from unrest in the Middle East.
“We monitor global events as part of our intelligence policing strategy. We know Nigeria has different Islamic groups, some with allegiance to the Middle East.
“We’ve taken necessary actions; policemen are on patrol, and we’re urging protesters to avoid lawlessness.”
