The Kano State Consumer Protection Council, KCPC, has removed 5,964 bottles of expired soft drinks from circulation following an enforcement operation at Singer Market in Kano.

The intervention was prompted by information received by the council about a trader allegedly keeping large quantities of soft drinks that had passed their expiry dates for possible sale to consumers.

Following the tip-off, enforcement personnel were sent to the market to verify the complaint and prevent the products from being sold to members of the public.

The Director of the council’s Enforcement and Removal of Substandard Products Department, Alhaji Auwalu A. Muhammad, said the operation was part of the agency’s statutory responsibility to safeguard consumers.

He maintained that the council would continue to discharge its duties in line with the law, without favouring anyone.

It urged residents to remain alert and provide relevant information that could help prevent unsafe products from finding their way into the marketplace.
