The Commander of 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brigadier General K. C. Uwa, on Tuesday, December 10, 2025, conducted an operational and confidence-building visit to Chanchanji in Takum Local Government Area following recent attacks that claimed the lives of several farmers.

The visit followed ongoing clearance operations within the Brigade’s Area of Responsibility, triggered by credible intelligence pointing to threats from suspected armed herders reportedly hiding in surrounding forests.

During the visit, Brigadier General Uwa led troops on extensive patrols across Chanchanji and neighbouring communities, covering major flashpoints and access routes to farmlands. The aim was to deter criminal elements and reassure residents of the Army’s firm control over the security situation.

At the Chanchanji Market Square, the Brigade Commander met with community members and displaced farmers who expressed fear of returning to their ancestral villages and farmlands to harvest crops due to potential renewed attacks. Some of the affected villages include Ayu, Dooshima, New Gboko, Adu Tyopaa, Peeki, and Tyojande.

Uwa directed troops to provide security cover for farmers and approved sustained farm patrols in the affected areas to guarantee protection before, during, and after harvesting activities. He assured residents that the Nigerian Army would pursue all criminal elements responsible for the attacks without relenting.

He also urged residents to provide credible intelligence on bandits’ movements and warned against spreading rumours that might undermine ongoing security efforts.

Community leaders and displaced farmers commended the Brigade Commander’s personal intervention, describing the visit as timely and confidence-boosting. Many expressed willingness to gradually return to their farms under military protection.

The operation and community engagement were completed without incident, with troops maintaining a strong and visible security presence throughout the affected communities.

The Nigerian Army, through 6 Brigade, reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives, livelihoods, and ensuring that law-abiding citizens across its Area of Responsibility can live and farm in safety.
